These orange creamsicle cupcakes were inspired by a personal favorite childhood treat, the orange creamsicle!
A delicious orange popsicle filled with a tasty cream vanilla center.
These are moist vanilla flavored cupcakes, iced with a creamy vanilla and orange frosting and topped off with a tangy orange candy.
These are great for summer a make a lovely display at parties or events.
These particular orange creamsicle cupcakes are made with cake mix, but with a secret ingredient to make the cake moist and flavorful.
Ingredients for Orange Creamsicle Cupcakes
The ingredients we used for these creamsicle cupcakes are split into two different sections. One for the cupcakes themselves and the other for the orange flavored icing.
The vanilla pudding and greek yogurt add an extra moist element to a typical boxed cake mix, if you never tried it, your in for a treat!
For the Orange Creamsicle cupcakes:
- 1 box white cake mix
- 3.4 oz box of instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3/4 cup plain greek yogurt
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs – slightly beaten
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup warm water
For the Orange Creamsicle Frosting:
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1 tsp orange extract
- 2-4 tbsp orange juice
- Orange Gel Coloring
How to Make Your Orange Creamsicle Cupcakes
Preheat your oven to 350°. Ready 2 cupcake pans by lining them with cupcake liners or by spraying lightly with oil.
In a large bowl, combine your cake mix, vanilla pudding, vanilla extract, yogurt, water and eggs.
Mix your ingredients well by hand or with a stand mixer.
Now fill your cupcake pan with batter, filling the cups about 2/3 of the way full, to allow for the cupcakes to rise. It should fill up all 24 cup-holes.
Bake your creamsicle cupcakes for 18-20 minutes until they are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean with poked into the center of the cakes.
Once your cupcakes have finished baking, remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
While your cupcakes are cooling, it’s time to make your orange creamsicle frosting.
Orange Creamsicle Frosting Instructions
In a large bowl mix your butter by hand or with a stand mixer until it’s smooth and creamy.
Then add in the orange zest, orange extract and vanilla extract. Mix together with a mixer as you slowly add in your powdered sugar.
Now you can add in orange juice 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency for your frosting.
Once your frosting is all finished, it’s time to frost your orange cupcakes.
Fill a piping bag with your orange frosting and ice your cupcakes.
Once your cupcakes are all frosted, top each one with an orange candy and serve!
